The Twin Cam was undoubtedly the reason why Ford began production of the RS1600, Mexico then the RS2000 at it's Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) facility in Aveley, Essex back in 1970. After the successful wins in Rally Championships with the MK1 an MK2 Lotus Cortina, Ford had nothing to continue the winning streak until the Escort was spotted on a test track and the bright idea of putting the Lotus Cortina running gear into the Escort was realised. So began the MK1 Escort Twin Cam and Aveley production of the most famous range of production cars
When the Twin Cam was launched with a price tag of £1,245.00 who would have thought that today, some 35 years + later, this little car would be the dream of so many and more importantly, be worth so much money to collectors and enthusiasts alike.
This valuation is only a guide and is based on market prices - please refer to the condition of the vehicle, A1 being the best with limited work to make Concours, and an A5 vehicle requiring extensive restoration
| Condition | A5 | A4 | A3 | A2 | A1 |
| £9000 | £12500 | £15750 | £20000 | £30000+ |
Restoration costs for these vehicles can be excessive, as many of the parts used for the Twin Cam are not readily available, such as the Plenum water drain, the battery tray in the rear of the boot, to name but a few. Therefore ensure that when you are looking at such a vehicle you try to assess your estimate of restoration costs - I've added what I consider to be a true reflection of market prices from heavy to light restoration costs and also include the difficult to find part prices.
| Condition | A5 | A4 | A3 | A2 | A1 |
| £20000 | £16000 | £12000 | £8000 | £2500 |
Concours cars, such as the pictures above can change hands for anything over £35000 - when viewing such examples, ensure there is a recent portfolio of restoration pictures and also a good selection of trophy's and rosettes that demonstrate the vehicles potential against its Concours competition
